Panel Conclusion 2018
Milestones Completed
Worüber wir nicht mehr zu sprechen brauchen, darüber muss man schweigen.
This citation, referring to a famous quote of the German Philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, probably applies most to the reflection on the topic of tutoring. Indeed, the MBA team is doing (almost) everything that is needed to create the optimal learning environment in which every individual participant can fully concentrate on their professional and personal development.
Based on the NSE results, students highly value the guidance and counselling provided by the MBA team:

“The open and encouraging study environment within the classroom allows the students to seek the opportunity to consult lecturers regarding subject struggles. These individual sessions present itself as one-on-one tutoring between student and lecturer. The MBA program leadership course, Hospitality Leadership Journey, in addition presents the opportunity for students to schedule a personal tutoring session with the lecturer to discuss any personal journey hurdles that may present itself during the personal discovery phase. This is both valuable and offers the student a growth opportunity from the feedback received.” Anita van Tonder 2022
All the activities that are initiated, organised and executed by the programme team for and with the MBA students have the objective to contribute to a (very) positive atmosphere in the close-knit community of the MBA and to facilitate an environment in which the students can maximise the focus on their learning and development process.
Next to group activities, individual consultations are organised to stay in close contact with the students and to build an environment of trust and safety. Programme Management is intensely involved in the counselling of the students. On average, programme management is with the students in the classroom 3 times a week. During these moments the students can directly share their concerns or ask a question, which can then be answered. Additionally, the students are supported through connecting them with the right support services, either inside or outside the campus. Next to the lecturers and programme team, the students also have access to the Hotelschool The Hague student counsellors or student confidentiality advisors when it concerns more private or complex situations.

The formal way of communication with the students are via e-mail and WhatsApp, in which operational topics can be shared, questioned and answered. Further, all course communication is done via e-mail and the official LMS myhotelschool.nl. At all times programme management intends to answer all concerns and questions via e-mail within 24 hours.
All in all, the NSE information and quotes regarding the support and guidance of the students shows that all the efforts made are highly appreciated:
“The decision to move from Armenia to Amsterdam was not the easiest, but it has profoundly impacted my life and career. This past year has been transformative, filled with incredible experiences, learning curves, growth and personal development. Your support and guidance have made this experience unforgettable and encouraging.”
Mariam Hovakimyan, 2023
“First and foremost, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the MBA team for their outstanding facilitation of the program. Your guidance and dedication have been invaluable, and I'm truly honoured to have had the opportunity to work with you." Ana Lila, 2022
Even though the lecturers grade the student deliverables, the exam results are communicated to the students directly and individually through the programme manager as well as published on Osiris grade registration system. Students that (unexpectedly) did not pass a certain assessment receive extra attention. This enables the student and team to also immediately discuss the review and resit opportunities.
The careful selection, counselling and tutoring processes have a positive effect on preventing dropouts which has been minimum from the commencement of the programme.

Standard 8: Tutoring
The guidance during the master programme is [even more] personalised, due to the small scale of the programme and the strong involvement of the programme manager. The information provision is extensive and ties in with the needs of students as well. Alumni can be contacted all over the world for information and assistance.
